Tibnine (112 km from Beirut) is a village, south of Lebanon, which was heavily attacked during the July 2006 war. Most of the buildings in the village were damaged or destroyed and needed reconstruction.
Heart of Lebanon got word of a building which homed five families: 5 brothers with theirs wives and children. During the war they fled their home to hide in the village hospital. When the war ended they went back to find their building damaged. After their outcry reached us, we decided to visit them.
We met with one of the brothers. He shared how much they suffered during the war. They were disappointed by the unfair treatment and religious discrimination of the donors. Only certain villagers from a particular faith group were helped to reconstruct their homes.
After inspecting the building, we promised to help him and his brothers reconstruct their building by paying for the expenses of the needed work.
The first check we gave him allowed him to hire men to start with the reconstruction. Two weeks later, we went back to monitor progress. We realized that the work was going good and fast. We were glad to see the difference this made in their lives and gave them the other check we promised to complete the reconstruction job.
