The war left many families struggling to meet their needs financially. Parents have lost their jobs, therefore can’t pay the school tuition, provide food or clothes for their kids, pay rent or purchase medicine. The poor became poorer.
Heart for Lebanon is working with families who are the poorest and the most affected by the war.
Nabaa is one of the poorest areas in the suburbs of Beirut. Heart for Lebanon was introduced to three Armenian-Lebanese families. During the Easter Holiday, Heart for Lebanon visited the families and met the children, who are rarely at home. The children live in an orphanage/home because the parents can’t afford to pay for their education. We bought groceries and things for the kids. We also offered the mothers coupons of a certain amount of money, to buy clothes for the kids.
Bourj Hammoud is another poor neighborhood, we helped a needy couple who live in a room rather that a house. Because of their financial difficulties they cannot afford to pay the rent. To help them stay under a roof Heart for Lebanon offered to pay the rent.
Heart For Lebanon helped another family living in the Fanar area, where a mother and her son live on their own. Although the mother is educated she couldn’t find a job. We brought her groceries and provided her with a used computer so that she can work from home by typing papers in order to earn her living.
While visiting Rmeich, a village in the south, Heart For Lebanon helped a needy family who slept on wooden planks because they didn’t have matrices for beds. We were so moved by this that we provided the family with matrices as well as medicine needed for the parents who were ill.
