On one of its trips to the South, Heart for Lebanon visited Saffad. The village, located about 30 minutes from Tyre , was severely bombed during the July war. Many of its houses were partially or totally destroyed, including the building of its only Greek Catholic Church which was build 250 years ago.
During that trip, we visited the priest of the village (Father Froncois) and asked him how we can help his perish. Heart for Lebanon offered to provide the most urgent need for these villagers in such a cold weather - fuel oil heaters.
Heart for Lebanon rented a truck from Beirut and headed 125 km South on the 20 th of January 2007 . The truck was loaded with 25 fuel oil heaters and all the necessary parts for installation. It was a rainy day, yet amazingly the rain stopped when we got there, it stopped for the time it took us to unload the truck and store the heaters in a room, adjacent from the priest's house. The villagers were to pick up their heaters from the priest at designated time.
Our goal was to make sure that every family had a heater to warm their house in this cold windy weather. Our heart's desire was for them to feel cared for and looked after.
Heart for Lebanon has future plans to support the reconstruction of the Greek Catholic Church.
